Hands Conformed to the Heart is a new book on Studies in Spiritual Theology. Spiritual theology, as explained by Jordan Aumann, has been known by various names, including ascetical and mystical theology. Ascetical theology, rooted in the Greek “askesis,” refers to disciplined spiritual practice aimed at attaining holiness. Spiritual theology studies the supernatural life, guiding believers from initial faith to perfection through growth, grace, and lived experience. It emphasises practical application over abstract theory, focusing on inner transformation and closeness to God. Pope Francis highlights the importance of connecting ideas with real life. Rooted in Scripture and doctrine, spiritual theology ultimately expresses itself through ethical living, love, and faithful Christian practice in everyday life.
