Perhaps not many would imagine that an enclosed Carmelite nun, who died at the age of twenty four, would have much to say to our world today. Yet, in a short lifetime, St Therese of Lisieux was given some extraordinary insights into the power and necessity of love in the heart of the Church. God helped her to realise just how much everyone in every walk of life is called to holiness. She also had a profound experience of the transforming value of suffering and even of what it means to be an atheist.
